Metal cutting discs for steel and stainless steel (INOX)

Metal cutting discs in this category are straight discs for cutting structural steel, sheet metal, profiles and stainless steel (INOX). The range runs from 115 mm to 400 mm in diameter, from the PFERD and Starflex brands, for angle grinders and chop saws. It is intended for installers, builders and metalworking workshops.

What you will find in this category

  • Thin discs for small angle grinders: 115 mm and 125 mm, 1.0-2.5 mm thick, 22.23 mm bore, max. 12,200-13,300 rpm.
  • Discs for 230 mm grinders: 1.9-3.0 mm thick, 22.23 mm bore, max. 6,500-6,650 rpm.
  • Large discs for chop saws and stationary saws: 300, 350 and 400 mm, 2.8-4.0 mm thick, 25.4-32 mm bore.
  • Packs and sets: PFERD discs in packs of 25 pieces, Starflex 125 × 1.0 mm in a set of 10 in metal packaging.

How to choose

  • Diameter and bore: match the disc to your tool. Bores are 22.23 mm on 115-230 mm discs and 25.4-32 mm on 300-400 mm discs.
  • Thickness: 1.0 mm discs give a narrow kerf and little material loss. Thicker discs of 2.5-4.0 mm suit heavier cutting.
  • Maximum speed: check the rpm marked on the disc against your machine. Larger discs have lower limits, for example 3,800 rpm for 400 mm.
  • Material: the discs are listed for carbon, structural and stainless steel. Some are also listed for acid-resistant steel.
  • Abrasive and bond: corundum or aluminium oxide with a fibre-reinforced resin bond. Grits range from 24 to 60.

Typical applications

Thin 125 mm discs suit precise cuts in steel profiles, sheets and stainless steel components on site. Discs of 230 mm cut sheets, profiles and solid material. Large 300-400 mm discs are for chop saws in installation workshops, where structural steel is cut regularly.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a 1.0 mm disc?

A thickness of 1.0 mm gives a narrow kerf, minimal material loss and cool cutting. This matters on temperature-sensitive stainless steel components.

Can the same disc cut steel and stainless steel?

Yes, many discs here are listed for both, for example the PFERD EHT 125-1.0 SG INOX and several Starflex discs. Check the product description for the exact materials.

How do I check a disc fits my machine?

Compare the diameter, bore and maximum speed with your tool. For example, 125 mm discs are rated up to 12,200-12,250 rpm and 230 mm discs up to 6,500-6,650 rpm.
