Miniature circuit breakers and motor switches for installations

This category covers miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) for overload and short-circuit protection of cables and wiring, plus a small number of motor protection devices. Most are 1-pole and 3-pole AC breakers for DIN rail mounting. There are also 2-pole DC breakers for photovoltaic systems. They are intended for electricians and panel builders.

What you will find in this category

  • 1-pole MCBs (38 products) in B and C characteristics, for single-phase circuits in distribution boards.
  • 3-pole MCBs (45 products) in B and C characteristics, for three-phase circuits, with rated voltage 230/400 V AC.
  • 2-pole PV DC breakers (2 products): 13 A and 16 A, 800 V DC, B characteristic, DIN rail mounting.
  • Motor protection devices (3 products) alongside 82 overcurrent breakers.
  • Brands: HAGER, EATON, SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, ETI and LEGRAND, with rated currents from 6 A to 63 A.

How to choose

  • Rated current: match it to the cable and load. The range runs from 6 A to 63 A, and 16 A is the most common (22 products).
  • Trip characteristic: B (46 products) suits equipment with low inrush currents. C (36 products) is used for cable protection against overloads and short circuits.
  • Number of poles: choose 1P (38 products) or 3P (45 products) for AC circuits. PV DC strings use 2P (2 products).
  • Breaking capacity: 6 kA is standard (78 products). 10 kA is available in 3 products.
  • Terminals and mounting: check the terminal capacity, for example 1-25 mm² on many models, and TH35 DIN rail mounting.

Typical applications

These breakers protect final circuits in residential and commercial installations. Several models are also designed for photovoltaic systems. Examples are the Ex9BN 3-pole breakers, the ETIMAT 6 for AC PV installations and distribution boards, and the C60PV-DC for DC strings. Selected series accept auxiliary contacts, releases and RCD blocks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add accessories to these breakers?

Some series can be expanded. Ex9BN breakers accept auxiliary and signalling contacts, shunt releases, under-voltage and over-voltage releases, or RCD blocks. Up to three contact modules and two release modules can be fitted. EATON xPole Home also supports accessories.

Are there breakers for DC photovoltaic circuits?

Yes. The Schneider Electric 2-pole models are 13 A and 16 A, 800 V DC, B characteristic. Breaking capacity is 3 kA at 650 V DC and 1.5 kA at 800 V DC. They mount on DIN rail.

What is the difference between B and C characteristics?

Type B has delayed tripping and suits equipment with low inrush currents. Type C is listed for cable protection against overloads and short circuits. Check the load before choosing.
