High-voltage cables for lightning protection installations

High-voltage cables carry lightning current where the required isolation distance cannot be kept. This category contains two cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation: a 50 mm² aluminium version and a 35 mm² copper version. They are intended for installers and builders fitting lightning protection systems close to metallic or conductive parts.

What you will find in this category

  • Aluminium cable, 50 mm² conductor, outer diameter 20.5 mm, insulation clearance 750 mm, for installations without required insulation clearance.
  • Copper cable, 35 mm² conductor, outer diameter 18.5 mm, withstand rating 150 kA / 200 kV, lightning protection class I.

How to choose

  • Conductor material: choose aluminium (50 mm²) or copper (35 mm²) to suit the design of your installation.
  • Cross-section: the range covers 35 mm² and 50 mm². Match it to the project specification.
  • Outer diameter: 18.5 mm for the copper cable and 20.5 mm for the aluminium cable. Check this against clips and routing space.
  • Withstand rating: the 35 mm² copper cable is rated 150 kA / 200 kV for lightning protection class I and holds the SEP-BBJ certificate.
  • Rodent protection: neither cable has it, so plan additional protection where it is needed.

Typical applications

Use a high-voltage cable where the lightning protection route passes close to metallic structures, electrical installations or other conductive elements. The cross-linked polyethylene insulation allows the cable to be routed safely in direct proximity to these parts, even when the required isolation distance cannot be maintained.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need a high-voltage cable?

You need one when the lightning protection route runs near metallic or conductive elements and the required isolation distance cannot be maintained. The insulated cable lets you route the installation safely in these places.

What is the difference between the two cables?

One has a 50 mm² aluminium conductor and the other a 35 mm² copper conductor. The copper cable is rated 150 kA / 200 kV and holds the SEP-BBJ certificate. Outer diameters are 20.5 mm and 18.5 mm.
