Description
Timber screw with a washer (flange) head, TX40 recess and 80 mm partial thread; low-carbon steel, electro-galvanised
About the product
The timber screw is used to join timber components. It has a washer (flange) head, a Torx TX40 recess and a partial thread. The washer head clamps the component over a wide surface area – without a separate washer. The product is sold in packs of 50.
The size 8 × 160 mm specifies the nominal diameter of 8 mm and the overall length L of 160 mm (including the head). Lt denotes the partial thread length: 80 mm. Dk denotes the head diameter, which is within the range of 21.5–23.5 mm, and K denotes its height: 3.4–3.75 mm. These are nominal dimensions according to the supplier's dimensional data sheet (Dk and K are given as ranges in the data sheet). Use a TX40 bit to drive the screw. Select the pilot hole size to suit the timber species. Pre-drill near the edges of the component to reduce the risk of splitting.
Material: low-carbon steel. Coating: electro-galvanised. The zinc coating protects the steel against corrosion under typical conditions. Where contact with salt, chemicals or constant moisture is expected, choose a version suited to the exposure conditions. The screw dimensions do not determine the load-bearing capacity of a particular joint. This depends on factors including the timber, penetration depth and joint configuration, and is specified in the design.
Selection and installation
- ✓Choose the pilot hole for the type of timber.
- ✓Pre-drill near the edges of the element – this reduces the risk of splitting.
- ✓Drive in with a TX40 bit.
Important
The screw dimensions do not define the load capacity of a particular joint. The load capacity depends, among other things, on the timber, the screw-in depth and the joint layout – it is set by the design.
