About the product
A U-bolt backing plate is a flat bar with a pipe cut-out and two holes for the U-bolt legs. It closes the clamp on the supporting surface side and, paired with a U-bolt of the same size, secures pipes to structures without drilling holes in the supporting surface.
The manufacturer's designation Ø8 × 61 mm specifies the dimensions of the matching U-bolt: the rod diameter Ø8 mm and the internal spacing between the legs A = 61 mm. The matching pipe size is 2". During installation, fit the backing plate over the U-bolt legs with the cut-out facing the pipe, then tighten the nuts alternately on both sides until the pipe is clamped evenly.
The coating (zinc-coated) protects the steel against corrosion under typical conditions. In the event of contact with salt, chemicals or constant moisture, choose a finish suitable for the exposure conditions. The backing plate is not sold in a set with a U-bolt. The load capacity of the fixing depends on the pipe, the structure and the tightening force – it is determined by the design.
Selection and installation
- ✓Select a backing plate for a U-bolt with the same designation: rod Ø8 mm, spacing A = 61 mm, pipe 2".
- ✓Fit the backing plate over the U-bolt legs with the cut-out facing the pipe.
- ✓Tighten the nuts alternately on both sides until the pipe is clamped evenly.
Important
The backing plate is not sold in a set with a U-bolt. The load capacity of the fixing depends on the pipe, the structure and the tightening force – it is determined by the design.
