About the product

A blind rivet permanently joins sheet metal and profiles where the joint can only be accessed from one side. The rivet is inserted into a hole and a blind rivet tool pulls the mandrel: its head expands the body on the blind side and clamps the parts being joined against the rivet head, then the mandrel breaks off at the break neck. This model has an open-end design and a flat head that remains on the surface after setting – it has a diameter of 10.5 mm and stands proud by 2.1 mm.

Choose the rivet size for the total thickness of all the parts being joined, not the thickness of a single sheet. The 5 × 10 mm rivet (length 10 mm measured under the head) clamps parts with a total thickness of 4.0 to 6.0 mm. If the parts being joined are thinner or thicker overall, choose another size from the list of nearest sizes. Drill the hole to Ø 5.1 mm, i.e. 0.1 mm larger than the 5 mm body diameter, and remove burrs before riveting.

The body and mandrel are made of A2/A2 stainless steel. In a chloride environment, for example by the sea or a swimming pool, the material must be chosen according to the exposure conditions and the design recommendations. According to the manufacturer's data sheet, the rivet withstands a shear force of 4 700 N and a tensile force of 5 800 N. These are test results for the rivet itself – the load capacity of the finished joint depends on the material, thickness and layout of the parts being joined and is set by the design. We sell the rivets in boxes of 500 pcs; a box weighs 2.05 kg.

Preparing the installation

  • ✓Check the total thickness of the parts being joined: it must be within 4.0–6.0 mm.
  • ✓Drill a hole Ø 5.1 mm (0.1 mm larger than the body d = 5 mm); remove burrs.
  • ✓Set with a blind rivet tool; the head should sit against the surface, the mandrel breaks off after setting.

Important

The grip range applies to the total thickness of the parts being joined. The load capacity of the joint depends on the material, thickness and layout of the parts – it is set by the design.
