Description
Hexagon head wood screw, A2 stainless steel
About the product
A DIN 571 screw is a hexagon head wood screw. It is driven with an open-ended spanner, ring spanner or socket in size SW8, not a screwdriver. The head is 3.5 mm high and measures at least 8.63 mm across corners.
The 5 × 50 mm screw has a length of 50 mm and a thread diameter of 5 mm, and according to the standard the thread is at least 30 mm long. Choose the pilot hole for the type of timber; pre-drilling near the edges of the element is advisable to reduce the risk of splitting.
The screw is made of A2 stainless steel, corrosion resistance class CRC II according to EN 1993-1-4. Where chlorides are present, for example by the sea or a swimming pool, choose the material according to the exposure conditions and the design recommendations. DIN 571 specifies the screw geometry, not the load capacity of the joint – this depends on, among other things, the timber, the screw engagement depth and the joint layout, and is set by the design. Sold in boxes of 200 pcs; each box weighs 1.41 kg.
Preparing the installation
- ✓Choose the pilot hole for the type of timber.
- ✓Pre-drill near the edges of the element – this reduces the risk of splitting.
- ✓Drive in with an open-end, ring or socket spanner SW8.
Important
DIN 571 defines the geometry of the product, not the load capacity of a particular joint. The load capacity depends, among other things, on the timber, the screw-in depth and the joint layout – it is set by the design.
