The washer head timber screw is a fastener for timber that clamps joined components using the large bearing surface of its washer head. The Torx TX40 drive provides secure bit engagement during installation. One shop listing is for a complete pack of 50 screws.

Design and application

  • The washer head distributes clamping pressure over a larger area of the joined timber
  • The partial thread draws the joined components together, while the smooth shank passes through the component being fastened
  • The Torx drive transfers torque from the bit to the screw
  • Used in timber joints and wooden structures

Material and finish

The screw is made of low-carbon steel and has an electroplated zinc coating that protects the steel against corrosion.

Selection and installation

Partially threaded timber screws are used to join timber components. When selecting the length, consider the thickness of the joined components so that the threaded section anchors into the receiving component. Drive the screws using a power screwdriver with a suitable Torx bit.

The large bearing surface of the washer head means that no additional washer is required in typical timber joints. The 50 mm partial thread provides anchorage in the supporting component, while the smooth section of the shank allows the component being fastened to be pulled tightly against the substrate.

The pack of 50 screws makes it easy to gather materials for a project and is convenient to transport as a small parcel.

The length of the threaded section depends on the screw's length and diameter. When selecting a screw, check that the entire thread will anchor into the supporting component and that the smooth shank will span the thickness of the component being fastened.
